A lawyer from Limpopo briefly appeared before the Pretoria North Magistrates court today on accusations of fraud and 15 counts of theft.
Nkoemakae Mola, 42, of Mola Attorneys was arrested by police in a house in Alverton near Burgersfort.
He is also chairman of the Pan-African Congress in the Sekhukhune region.
According to Gauteng National Prosecion Authority Spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana, the accused allegedly defrauded potential house buyers and swindled them an amount of over R2 Million by pretending to be a lawyer handling the sale of the property.
Mahanjana said Mola allegedly acted on false pretenses, asking potential buyers to deposit a certain amount of money into Mola attorneys Trust bank account for the purchase of property.
“When the money reflected in the Mola attorneys’ account, it is alleged that he would transfer the money to his private personal account.
“After several criminal cases were opened against him,”Mahanjana said.
Police traced and arrested Mola in his house on Tuesday, 06 July 2021.
Mola used the same Modus operandi to sell the same RDP houses to the victims of Pretoria, Nellmapius and Atteridgeville on a number of occasions at the value of 150,000.
The matter was postponed until July 12, 2021, for a formal bond application.
