After he stabbed her 16 times, the man was seen walking the streets of Tembisa, a free man!
It’s an amazing miracle she’s still alive.
Thembelihle Manqele says her boyfriend stabbed her after breaking up with her. And then he pronounced her dead.
“When my family was calling an ambulance to take me to hospital, he told them to call the mortuary van because I was dead,” she said.
“Even after I was down and bleeding heavily, he kept on stabbing me.”
But after 18 days in hospital, Thembelihle survived, and went back to her home in Rabie Ridge near Tembisa, Ekurhuleni on Wednesday.
All she wanted was to see her attacker behind bars. Instead, she found that he was still walking free and threatening her family members while she was in hospital.
Her family says the police arrested him but then let him go without issuing a case number.
So now she’s in hiding.
An emotional Thembelihle spoke to our sister publication, Scrolla.Africa about the attack on 23 August when her boyfriend told her that their relationship was over.
“I accepted his decision. But then, he pushed me into the house and started beating me up. He pulled a knife and repeatedly stabbed me.”
She recalls that her boyfriend was so convinced she was dead after the stabbing that he told her mother she should organise money for her corpse to be transported back to KZN where she is originally from.
“My life is in danger. The man was heard telling everyone in the community that he will finish what he started,” she said.
Thembelihle’s sister Thakasile Manqele said the family has not received even a case number from the police and there has been no communication from any police officer.
“The man was taken into custody on 26 August and was released three days later without any explanation to us. We don’t know what happened with the case,” said Thakasile.
Thakasile said they are even afraid to go back and open an intimidation case against the boyfriend as he keeps on threatening to kill their sister.
“The police are failing us.”
Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said the suspect was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
“He appeared in court and will appear again on 8 October,” he said.
Masondo said police will follow up with the victim as she has just been discharged from hospital, and will gather more information.
