MEC Hlophe encourages Alex pupils to stay at school for brighter future

Yesterday (19th January 2023), the Gauteng MEC for Social Development, Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Mbali Hlophe visited Ithute Primary School in Alexandra and encouraged pupils to continue to be obedient to their seniors, teachers, and study hard.

Speaking to the learners as part of Gauteng Provincial Government’s Back-to-School campaign, she said, “Your parents brought you to school so that you can attain success in the future.

“So don’t miss the opportunity to better your lives because government is here to support you.”

Hlophe assured the school as she distributed 150 school uniform packs and 111 Dignity Packs that government would make it a point that learners have a Social Worker from the department, dedicated to the school to assist with matters such as substance abuse awareness and social ills.

Amapiano DJ, singer and motivational speaker Lady Du told learners to stay focused on their schooling.

She reminded them that education is the key to successful life.

Buhle Tshewu (12), grade 7 pupil, thanked the Department for the uniform.

She added that she was grateful to the department and the MEC.

She asked the ministry to provide continuity of its support to under-privileged learners.

“We also appreciate this special visit as it opened our eyes to several career opportunities,” said Buhle.

The school uniform packs distributed by Gauteng Government consists of a pair of shoes, a pair of socks, a jersey, tunic/trouser/skirt, a pack of underwear, a vest, a bag.
Dignity packs contained soap, moisturizer, sanitary towel.
