Gauteng MEC for Public Transport and Road Infrastructure Jacob Mamabola visited a victim of Putco Bus fire at Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Tswane this afternoon (23 May 2021).
This after 6 passengers were burned beyond recognition, leaving 57 others injured when a Putco Bus caught fire while moving.
The bus carried 63 commuters from Tshwane to Tweefontein in Mpumalanga when the horrible incident occurred on Friday, May 21, 2021.
Mamabolo says the cause of the fire remains unknown.
During his media briefing after visiting the victim in ICU at the hospital, Mamabolo assured the public that he would appoint an independent investigator to probe the incident.
While grieving families are still asking about what happened to their loved ones, it is said that the police are determined to investigate the incident.
Mamabolo emphasized that Putco management should make a public statement on Monday for its commuters.
The recent incident follows the one that happened in March this year, when a Putco bus caught fire in N1. Fortunately, only the driver was in and there were no fatalities.
Putco Buses have been in the news for their alleged poor states.
