“We see potential in the boy, he’s very good,” says Rhulani Mhlanga, secretary of the Mukhomi Community Forum, referring to Mukhomi village teenage boy, Humphrey Nkwinika.
Humphrey, born in 2001, is a grade 11 learner at Humula Secondary School.
His drawing skills saw him become a celebrated boy, though some call him a penniless celebrity.
He started drawing at a very young age when he was in grade one at Mukhomi Primary School.
“He can do wonders with his hands. Humphrey is a gifted artist who can draw or paint objects and people. The most fascinating part is that he is from our village. We would be happy if he can be known throughout South Africa and be successful,” said Mhlanga.
When he was in grade 8, his visual arts teacher, Sambo BP, noticed his talent and helped develop his abilities.
His drawings and paintings are for sale and he draws the picture that the purchaser asks for.
“My main plea is to get a studio where I can work effortlessly and at ease. This will help other young aspiring artists to reach me,” said Humphrey, while encouraging his peers to work harder towards their goals.
To communicate with him, people can call his teacher Sambo Beyer at 0836329848 or the Vice-Chair of the Mukhomi Community Forum Jonh Mnetwa at 0843530584.
We think his work an be considered by the Department of Art and Culture so that so that his talent can’t go down the drain. If he still doing grade 11 while he was born in 2001 it means he is behind his peers in education so it means he need to be natured in his talent so he can make a living.
