MORE THAN 600 SUSPECTS ARRESTED DURING SAFER FESTIVE SEASON OPERATION SHANELA IN LIMPOPO

Subsequent to the ongoing weekly safer festive season operation Shanela activated at all the Districts of Limpopo province from 04 November until 10 November 2024, 611 suspects were arrested for various offences which include robberies, murder, rape, burglaries, malicious damage to properties, possession of drugs, illegal mining, contravention of immigration act and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The multi-disciplinary operations were conducted by various law enforcement agencies such as SAPS, SANDF, Government Departments, private security companies and other stakeholders with an interest on safety.

The operations were conducted through roadblocks, stop and searches, and tracing of wanted suspects.

Four firearms, twenty eight (28) dangerous weapons were seized, one (01) stolen or hijacked motor vehicle, 0,23 kilograms of Dagga and 0,050 grams of Nyaope drugs were recovered amongst others during the integrated operations.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the arrests and encouraged a working relationship between the community and the police. “Partnership policing is a game changer in the fight against crime. It is through collaboration efforts that we can realise impact in the fight against crime, corruption and lawlessness,” added Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.

Some of the arrested suspects have started to appear before their local Magistrate’s Court across the province.
