Police in Phoenix are continuing with investigation into an apparent hit and run incident in which a 26-year-old woman died after she was hit by a vehicle which failed to stop on Phoenix Highway in the early hours of Saturday, 17 August 2024.

The victim was allegedly knocked down by a police vehicle. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the accident scene, however it was reported that there was a person who went to the accident scene to pick up a front registration plate which fell off from the vehicle during the accident.

Shortly after a case of culpable homicide was registered at Phoenix police station, a Sergeant who was the last person to be in possession of the state vehicle in question went to the same police station to open a case of theft of a motor vehicle. The vehicle was later found abandoned at the sugercane fields on Saturday morning.

  • “On Monday, 19 August 2024, morning police received reports that the 48-year-old police Sergeant who was implicated in the hit and run incident had taken his own life. Circumstances surrounding the apparent suicide incident form part of police investigations,” said Colonel Robert Netshiunda.
