Police pounced on bogus police officer in Alex

A 41-year-old man was arrested at Alexandra Magistrate’s court on Thursday 25 February 2021 for fraud and impersonating a police officer.

 

It is reported that the suspect, who called himself a police Captain, approached a man accused of murder and promised to make the docket disappear, at a fee, so that he can walk free.

 

The victim was allegedly  called by Captain Malebane (in  October 2020) and promised thagy with R5000-00, his  case  could disappear in court.

 

The victim allegedly paid Malebane R3200 and the balance was to be paid later.

 

The matter was reported to Johannesburg Special Crime Investigation Unit that immediately started with the investigation.

 

Captain Mavela Masondo said the police pounced on the suspect at Alexandra Magistrate’s Court after receiving R1000 entrapment money from the victim.

 

“On further investigation, it was established that the suspect from Alexandra is not a police officer,”Masondo said.

 

The suspect has since appeared at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court today.

 

Members of the public are cautioned not to give money to any person calling himself a police officer, especially for exchange of favour.

 

“Such conduct constitute a criminal offence to both parties,” warned Masondo.
