Police seek for information following the bombing of cash van

The Provincial Head of the Hawks Major General Gerber is appealing to the public to assist with information regarding a Cash In Transit robbery which took place on Friday, 12 July 2024 at 17:30 in Leandra-Ogies Road next to Goed Gevonden Mine.

It is alleged that on the day in question, G4S Cash Solution Fleet Toyota Hino, was traveling from Leandra to the base in Witbank after collections in Witbank, Kriel and Secunda. At Goed Gevonden Mine, the suspects started shooting at the AV with rifles and pistols, forcing it to stop. After the vehicle had stopped, the suspects forced the occupants from the vehicle and disarmed the crew.

The suspects then placed explosives on the vehicle and bombed it. They fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash using the following vehicles:
1X White TOYOTA ETIOS with tinted windows.
– Silver FORD GUGA
– Gold TOYOTA COROLLA

The team of Law enforcement comprising of
-Ogies SAPS
Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Middelburg and Secunda based Serious Organised Crime Investigation Units,
WITBANK Local Criminal Record Centre and
WITBANK Crime Intelligence was summoned to the crime scene.

Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said the General is urging the public to assist with information regarding the incident by reporting to the DPCI directly by contacting the investigating team leader Col Mokwana on 0824619278.

He further mentioned that these types of crimes place financial institutions under threat.

He said it places the communities surrounding these incidents at serious risk.

In conclusion, he stated that if the public and police collaborate, they can put an end to this crime.
