The villager of Roadhuis, under the municipality of Collins Chabane in Malamulele, left the community shocked when he reportedly shot himself in the head.
Twani ‘Muapostol’ Macebele (31) allegedly robbed a Somali shop owner in Madonsi village outside Malamulele,Limpopo on the 24 July.
Twani is well-known as a local prophet who loved the church.
When the store owner apparently screamed for help, Twani fled.
“We are told that when Twani realized the community members were chasing him, he shot himself in the head.
“He is not known to us as a criminal, but as a man who loved church. He helped a lot of people through his prophecy.
” As the community , we are very disturbed and shocked about his death,” said a community member who asked to remain anonymous.
According to Sergeant Busisiwe Khuzwayo, spokesperson for the Malamulele police, Twani shot himself with a gun that didn’t belong to him.
Khuzwayo refuted claimed that the mob pelted him with stones.
She said by the time the cops arrived on the scene, he was still alive.
Khuzwayo said the police took him to the hospital under police guard where he succumbed to his injuries.
She further stated that the firearm had been sent for ballistic testing to establish its owner and determine if it had been used for other criminal activities.
