River park resident who killed a JMPD officer found with pangas ,multiple rounds of ammunition, two firearms, an air gun, and other items

Multiple suspects were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit in connection with the murder of JMPD officer Judith Makwela, who was tragically killed at her residence in Riverside, Alexandra on Friday, 07 March 2025.

On Saturday, 15 March 2025, officers received information regarding the location of a suspect believed to be involved in the officer’s murder.

Acting swiftly on this information, officers from the JMPD TRU proceeded to an address in Riverside, Alexandra.

Upon tactical entry, a suspect matching the provided description was located within the premises. Subsequent questioning of the suspect led to further crucial information, which led to the apprehension of more suspects.

Multiple rounds of ammunition, two firearms, pangas, an air gun, and other items were recovered.

A total of five suspects, which include one female and four males, were apprehended and detained at Alexandra Police Station with charges of murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

“The swift and decisive action of our Tactical Response Unit in apprehending these suspects demonstrates our unwavering commitment to ensuring justice for Officer Makwela and her family,” said JMPD Chief of Police, Chief Patrick Jaca .

“We will not tolerate attacks on our officers, and we will relentlessly pursue those who perpetrate such heinous crimes. This operation sends a clear message that we will not rest until those responsible are brought to book,” said Jaca.
