The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Operations officers arrested seven heavily armed suspects in Eldorado Park, Region G, on the evening of 08 March 2025.
While conducting routine patrols in Ward 119, officers received information from members of the community regarding a silver Toyota Avanza, involved in armed robberies in the Eldorado Park area.
Acting swiftly on this information, officers located the vehicle at the intersection of Golden Highway and Union Avenue, Eldorado Park.
A thorough search of the vehicle revealed 5 unlicensed firearms, 3 live ammunition and 2 knives. Officers also recovered 2 wallets containing bank cards, 3 cellphones (Apple, Samsung, and Huawei), a pair of scissors, a school bag, and a hookah pipe.
It was further discovered that the vehicle the suspects were using was stolen.
All seven male suspects were arrested and detained at Eldorado Park SAPS. The stolen vehicle was seized and booked in at the SAPS Lenasia vehicle pound for further verification.
They face charges of armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
JMPD Chief of Police, Chief Patrick Jaca, stated, “This successful operation is a testament to the dedication and vigilance of our officers and the invaluable partnership we have with the community.
“We are sending a clear message that criminal activity will not be tolerated in Johannesburg. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of our residents, and we commend the officers involved for their bravery and professionalism.”
