Thandi Maphalala (37) has accused the principal of Minerva Secondary School in Alex of locking her daughter in the sick room without informing her.
Thandi said her 17-year-old girl has a medical condition that causes her to fall sometimes.
She alleged that on July 15th, her daughter fell on the school premises in the morning and was taken to the sick room.
She complained that upon returning from work at 6 pm, she couldn’t find her grade 10 learner at home.
She claimed that she went to the school and the principal, Nonsikelelo Tsatsi, told her that the child wasn’t there.
“I have a serious problem with the principal of Minerva High School. My child collapsed at school before she could even start the first period, and they never called us as parents.
“They took the child to their sick room. Her class teacher, Ms. Mathuba, advised other learner to go and get a wheelchair for the girl without calling us, the parents.
“Upon returning from work, we searched for her, went to school at 18:30 and later found the principal, Mrs. Tsatsi, and we told her about that. She advised us to go to the clinic to search for her. We then went to Masakhane clinic, but the child was not there. From there, we went to Edenvale Hospital, but she was not there. Also, we went to the 15th police station and she wasn’t there either.
“At around 8 pm, we searched for her friends from school and found one of her classmates, who informed us that the child was taken to the sick room.”
“We went back to school with him, and that’s when we found the child in the sick room next to Tsatsi’s office at 20:45.
“As parents, we want to know what Tsatsi wanted to do with the child, because she is now denying that we found her there.
Two days ago, Alex Reporter sent messages to Tsatsi for comment on both her phones, but she blue-ticked us.
The Gauteng Department of education was not reached for comment at the time of going to press.
