When these kids were found in Alex’s cemetery during school hours, we thought they were chilling. Their appearance suggested that they hadn’t taken a shower in a month. Their clothes were torn apart, raising questions as to why their parents didn’t look after them.
We had no idea that these children were destitute with almost no one to care for them.
Their mother, Magdeleine Molovi, ran away to Mozambique in December 2023. It’s unfortunately unknown when she will return to South Africa as she allegedly sold a space that wasn’t hers. She accepted the 10K offer and ran away with the money, leaving the buyer with no land, but baying for her blood!
She has 5 kids, and 4 of them live in the dilapidated house where we visited. The 15-year-old boy is disabled. The two twin boys (10) are in grade 4 at Bovet primary school in Alex. The 9-year-old boy is in grade 8 at Bovet.
All the kids receive a monthly grant, but their mother receives the money from Sassa and spends it alone in Moz. Unfortunately, since she disappeared, that was the last time they wore new clothes or ate nutritional food.
And their father is said to be at 16-4th Avenue in Alex with another woman. It’s alleged that he has no desire to have anything to do with the children.
Looking at their location, clothing, furniture, and appearance, you could see rejection, anger, poverty, and starvation written on their foreheads.
Social workers do not pay attention to or visit them. The school management has nothing to do with them. They are just a laughing stock among their peers.
Why are they suffering? Are they bearing the cost of their mother’s sins? For how long should they look like hobos and suffer ?Are we waiting for them to become criminals?
