The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has unequivocally condemned the heinous act of violence and multiple rapes perpetrated against a 26-year-old woman at gunpoint in Mhlontlo Municipality, Upper Chulunca at Langeni Village.

This horrific incident, which lasted for three agonizing hours, involved the brutal assault and repeated violation of the victim by three men, culminating in the deliberate destruction of her home.

ATM said such acts are a grave affront to human dignity and “must be met with the strongest condemnation from all sectors of society”.

“The ATM stands in solidarity with the victim, who has been left traumatized by this ordeal. The fact that one of the perpetrators is known to her underscores the betrayal of trust and the pervasive culture of violence that must be eradicated from our communities.

“It is an affront to our shared humanity and a stark reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive measures to combat gender-based violence in our country.

“We call for swift and decisive action from law enforcement authorities, particularly the South African Police Service (SAPS), to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

“The ATM demands that those responsible face the full might of the law, including the imposition of the maximum possible sentence.

“The ATM implores all citizens to join in the fight against gender-based violence, to support survivors, and to foster a society where every individual can live free from fear and harm. We must collectively work towards a future where such atrocities are no longer tolerated, and where justice prevails for those who have suffered.

“We reiterate our call for justice for the victim and express our deepest condolences for the trauma she has endured. This incident is a clarion call for all of us to stand up, speak out, and take action against the scourge of violence against women in our society,” said Zama Ntshona,
ATM National Spokesperson.
