Booysens Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 36-year-old uncle to life imprisonment for rape.
Edward Komape was convicted after the court learned that he had violated his niece from the age of four until she was 10.
She was raped between 2011 and 2018 in Nature.
This whole incident took place at night, when her parents were on night shifts and left her in Komape’s care.
According to Captain Xoli Mbele, the victim began to injure herself by cutting her hands with sharp objects.
Mbele testified that she made her parents aware of her ordeal on September 23, 2020.
The investigating officer, Sergeant Nkateko Faith Ndobe, collected all the evidence prior to the accused’s apprehension in Limpopo on March 14, 2021.
Ndobe of Johannesburg Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS) said:
“We hope this sentence will deter would-be offenders from committing crimes against children.”
