Five people were arrested by City Power security for cable theft around Edenvale Hospital.
The five, which includes three foreign nationals, were arrested in the early hour of today after cutting two Medium Voltage cables, leading to an outage in the area which also affected one voting station in Ward 81.
According to City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, the culprits were found with cutting tools which were confiscated, including a Nissan bakkie used to carry the cables.
“City Power teams were working to repair and replace the damaged cables.
“Customers affected include:
* Edenvale hospital
* Rand Aid
* Sizwe hospital
* Tarantal Voting Station
* Elphin Lodge,” Mangena said.
Mangena said said they were engaging the IEC about alternative power supply to ensure voting was minimally affected.
“Unfortunately, no ETR has been given at this stage, but we hope to restore power by this afternoon – if all goes according to plan.
“We will update customers as and when information is available. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this.
